Name: Y. Lakshmi
Location: Boomanacheruvu cluster , Maden palle Mandal , Chittoor
Lakshmi’s journey started when she initially worked as a Village Activist and then as a Cluster Activist in Community Managed Sustainable Agriculture, Velugu project. She lives in a combined family so it was difficult to convince everyone to pursue ZBNF. She bought one and half acres of land for around 3 lakhs and started doing ZBNF on it. Initially she started with rice . The length of the rice field was low in her field as compared to the neighboring non ZBNF field. But after harvesting she was able to produce 15 bags more than the neighbors. This was a huge motivation booster for the surrounding farmers who then started taking up natural farming. Her field is surrounded by a Tribal colony who then pursued ZBNF methodology.
She credits the dissemination of ZBNF to the RMGs formed in her village . There are 6 Rythu Mitra Groups in her village which provides a platform for farmers to come and discuss ZBNF rather than just listening from their wives.
Pico dissemination has also helped to explain concepts of ZBNF in details. There are around 1300 families in her cluster out of which around 150 farmers are seed to seed and around 200 farmers are partial ZBNF . Such technological intervention is seen as a way to motivate and convince farmer on a real time basis rather than just verbose and concepts.
Her grit and determination lead to sharing of her experience at the inaugural function of the state level Training of Training of Subash Palekar where she was felicitated by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
